Enjoy 150mm on the Rock!

The Sky-Watcher 150N-AZ4 is a fun telescope to use.  It is easy to operate, and very rewarding for casual astronomy.  It delivers very good optical capability, and rock solid stability.

The Optical Capability of this Grab-in-Go 150mm Aperture Newtonian Rocks

The SW 150N offers 33% more light gathering than a 130mm mirror.  The incremental aperture is sufficient to facilitate more serious viewing of fainter deep-space phenomenon.  Prominent deep-space objects appearing as amorphous, ghost-like apparitions in smaller telescopes begin to reveal themselves as large aggregations of individual stars in the SW 150N-AZ4.  Observing lunar and planetary detail with this telescope is beyond just being more satisfying, it can appear almost stunning in comparison.

The perhaps 100,000 stars in M13, the spectacular globular star cluster in constellation Hercules, are almost completely resolved as discrete star points down to the central core, the Orion Nebula now appears as a large, billowing cauldron of hot gas and bright stars, as does the Lagoon, and a number of other emission Nebulae.  Galaxies while still very faint do appear noticeably brighter.  The telescope shows exciting detail across the entire spectrum of solar system favorites.  The Moon offers a number of interesting features about its rugged extraterrestrial landscape revealing smaller impact craters within larger high-walled craters, lunar mountains, plateaus, sea-like plains, and other surface phenomenon.  The rings of Saturn can be seen clearly and sharply.  The gas giant Jupiter is one of the brightest objects in the sky, and its equatorial belts and dusky colors are quite distinctive.  Its prominent satellites are an ever changing array about the planet.

Sky-Watcher 150N primary mirrors are hand-figured to the highest standards of optical smoothness and correction by skilled opticians, ensuring diffraction-limited premium optical performance.  On each parabolic-shaped primary mirror, enhanced-aluminized is vacuum deposited to the front glass surface and then an over-coat of hard quartz (SiO4) is applied for protection.  The diagonal mirror is also vacuum-coated with enhanced aluminum and over-coated with SiO4.

Quality Accessories Enhance Your Observing Experiences

The standard accessories are top notch: Super Plossl 4-emement 17mm and 7.5mm eyepieces, Red-Dot finder for fast selection of stars for star-hopping, plus planetarium software to explore the heavens on your PC.

The Rock (AZ4 Mount) Includes 1.75" Diameter Tubular Steel Tripod Legs as Supplied with the SW 150N-AZ4

The superbly designed Sky-Watcher AZ4 mount is remarkably portable with heavy-duty, yet lightweight construction—a veritable paragon of stability—perfect for demanding terrestrial and astronomical applications.

A mount's stability and ease-of-operation during the process of viewing terrestrial or moving sky objects can make the experience a consistently enjoyable pastime, or render it generally frustrating as images appear to dance around uncontrollably in the eyepiece.  Mechanical stability and fluid tracking are the keys to mount quality. The high-performance Sky-Watcher AZ4 mount excels admirably in both these important attributes.  The AZ4's altazimuth design also adds to the mount's stability as the center of gravity is directly over the tripod.

The Sky-Watcher AZ4 mechanical tracking motions about both axes glide on large thrust-bearing surfaces lubricated by industrial-standard Teflon bearings producing smooth, fluid motion.  Control knobs adjust the mount of drag (stricture) to ensure ease of movement without loss of precision.  The mount and tripod head are constructed of rigid, cast aluminum.
